Dear KiKi,

I am the biggest bitch when it comes to Valentine’s Day. The entire time I’ve been together with my partner, despite his feelings about it, I’ve insisted on the traditional shows of affection —card, flowers, gifts, fancy dinners out—and in turn, I also give him a card and a nice expensive gift of some kind. Today I woke up, looked at my calendar, and was dismayed to find that today is the day. For the first time in my life, I am completely unprepared for Valentine’s Day. I did not buy my loved one a gift. I didn’t even buy him a card. I feel horrible about it — and even still, I know I’ll be pissed if he forgot about me. (Which is likely since I wasn’t aware enough to hound him about it.) I have a sick toddler, a needy dog riddled with separation anxiety, and I have to work (remotely) — there is no way I can leave the house to even go to the store for a card. Do you have any advice or suggestions?

Signed,
Big Bitch

  • Let go of the expectations you have of him…
