Depressed, lonely, and I don’t know what to do

Dear KiKi:

I’m not really sure why I’m writing. I feel like I’m not the only one out there who feels this way, but I’m alone on New Year’s this year and it’s really hard. I thought I’d be OK with it, but after all this time with COVID and off and on of being able to spend time with people and do things that are pseudo normal, I just can’t take it anymore. Nobody wants to do anything, I don’t have any family around, I don’t want to go out on New Year’s Eve alone, and everyone I know who wanted to come over or get together is sick right now. I am bored and sad. What can I do to make this night suck less?

Whiny Winnie

Dear Winnie,

Don’t be so hard on yourself. You aren’t that whiny. And the depression you’re experiencing is real and valid. I’m not sure I can help your night suck any less or add any excitement to your life, but maybe I can give you a few things to consider. Later this afternoon, pamper yourself. Take a nice long bath or shower, put on an elegant robe or something that makes you feel nice, do your hair and makeup so you feel fresh and special, dab on your favorite perfume — everything and anything that makes you feel pampered…
