I just LOVED this. It also broke my heart. I also destroyed a relationship with my best friend, gosh, way back in 1994--in nearly the same way--we haven't spokeen since, and it makes me so sad that we've missed out on the important milestones of our lives. I've written more apology drafts than I care to admit, but I always feel like it's so self-serving. I almost don't deserve her forgiveness. I still miss her.
