This is amazing! I have many of the same qualities and relationship experiences--and have always dreamed of moving to France one day, living out my days as an ex-pat writing on a veranda somewhere sipping on coffee. In my 50s and a bit stagnant, I'm going through a phase of feeling like it's "all over." I will probably read this piece several times. Would love to read more of your stories about your experiences!
