Where I’m From

A poem

I am from an oasis of pine
Frozen lakes and birch
Whispering gently as they bask
In the blinding winter light

Where am I from?
Mountains and flannel
Bubbling brooks and mud
Maple sap in paper cups

Sweet on my tongue
In the cold spring sun

I am from music and plays
Guitars and fires
Artwork etched in moss
Giggling drowned by a sweet summer storm

Where am I from?
Drinking, dance, and food
Eating the crisp skin of turkey
Hide and seek and other fun

Running through the woods
In the twilight of autumn’s song

I am from…
I am from…

She is from a quaint little town
Nestled in the woods
A pig-tailed little girl running
Down, down, down the hill

Where is she from?
She is from yellow traffic lights flashing at ten
Small town…
